The family lore states that he owned 99 slaves...as it is told "I can't keep 100 slaves, because either one would run away or one would die".

He was contacted by the Mormon Missionaries, where he dug a hole in the creek and had the whole family baptised and all of the slaves. Before he left with the Mississippi Company wagon train, it was told that he gave them all their freedom

The wagon train was making for Nauvoo Illinois, Until they heard that the Prophet Joseph Smith had been murdered. They decided to make for the trail that the mormons were going to use to move west. They got to the trail, only to find that Brigham Young wasn't on the trail yet.. I'm not sure how he received this message. Maybe from someone on the trail.

He settled Boulder Colorado and stayed there for 2 years or until Brigham Young started to move. They met Young on the trail and was only one day behind him coming into the Salt Lake Valley. He settled by this creek, which is now called Holladay Utah, but he was a rambling stone. He eventually settled in Spring Creek, Utah.Janet's Placehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16225587121788111484noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590994079215560633.post-18602997870880152572018-06-18T14:20:49.427-07:002018-06-18T14:20:49.427-07:00Yes, I know all about this. The site was flood irrigated all of the time, so the family name a large marker, in the same shape as the Washington Monument. It is located in the Santaquin Cemetery, back on the east side towards the back. It is very large. He lived in Polygamy with his 3 wives, who were all buried (after they had died) in the same grave site. Now, the remains are still in the field, but the stone is in the cemetery. Spring Creek is just south of Santaquin across the freeway from Spring Lake. I do not think it is on any maps because Spring Creek was the farm where JDH, Sr lived when he died. Both he and his wife are buried in the field (no cemetery) out in front of the house. For many years there was a marker there with an iron fence around it – but later owners of the property had the marker moved to the Santaquin cemetery, but the bodies were never moved. When I was there some 10 – 15 years ago (now it is July 2009) it was a plowed field. John Daniel Holladay, Jr. and his three wives are buried in the Santaquin cemetery.

Jared Bjarnason
Son of John Holladay Bjarnason
Son of Ida Florence Holladay
Daughter of John Daniel Holladay, Jr.
Jaredgb0306@aol.comJared and Barbarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04695114037098178851noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1590994079215560633.post-29211557965565182592009-05-03T17:55:00.000-07:002009-05-03T17:55:00.000-07:00Hi, I'm also a direct descendent of Daniel Hollada...Hi, I'm also a direct descendent of Daniel Holladay Jr., and of the Utah lineage. You might want to try the DUP. He is not buried in Holladay. They moved out of there to San Bernardino within a few years with Apostle Lyman. There used to be a monument but it was moved. Thomas Wiley is buried in Pima, AZ. He is my great great grandfather. I come from Charles Eugene and Lawrence. That gravestone you have for Daniel Jr. is in Moscow AL. I was there the other day looking for it. There are still Holladays in AZ too. I e-mailed a guy about a 500-pg book on several generations of Holladays that he has on CD!

Just be careful, because I'm not sure how our English Holladays link in with the Irish Hallidays, and most of the current posts seem to be for the Irish.Happy Holladayshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13136475618471577157noreply@blogger.com
